ROH on Sinclair - Episode 547 - 11th March 2022

The next instalment of 'innovative' content from Sinclair's scaled down ROH production team to fill out the 2022 ROH TV schedule is dubbed 'The History Of Supercard Of Honor'. We'll be seeing highlights and match excerpts from the rich history of an event which goes back to WrestleMania weekend 2006, culminating in 2019 when Ring Of Honor made its historic debut in Madison Square Garden.

We begin by going right the back to the inaugural 2006 event in Chicago, and revisit perhaps the most iconic match in Supercard Of Honor history; the legendary 'Meltzer 5*' Dragon Gate trios match...

Highlights of CIMA/Naruki Doi/Masato Yoshino vs Dragon Kid/Genki Horiguchi/Ryo Saito from Supercard Of Honor are shown

SUPERCARD OF HONOR THROUGH THE YEARS - We get brief clips of the Dragon Gate trios sequel from Supercard Of Honor 2, the McGuinness/Aries World Title classic from Supercard Of Honor 3, the end of Nigel's epic title reign at Supercard Of Honor 4, Tyler vs Roddy in a blockbuster from Supercard Of Honor 5, Eddie Edwards facing Roderick Strong for the belt at Supercard Of Honor 6, Jay Briscoe's memorable World Title victory over Kevin Steen at Supercard Of Honor 7, the violent Ladder War between Briscoe and Adam Cole at Supercard Of Honor 8, the culmination of Samoa Joe's brief 2015 return when he challenged Jay for the title at Supercard Of Honor 9, Cole and O'Reilly in a No Holds Barred war at Supercard Of Honor 10 (not including Lethal vs Lio Rush from that year is criminal), Supercard Of Honor 11 can only mean the notorious Hardyz/Bucks Ladder Match, the big draw for Supercard Of Honor 12 was the long-awaited showdown between Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega...and of course we end with G1 Supercard, featuring the appearances of Great Muta and Jushin Liger in the Honor Rumble

Highlights of Jay Lethal vs Matt Taven vs Marty Scurll in a Ladder Match for the ROH World Title at G1 Supercard are shown

Tape Rating - N/A - Clearly I'm biased, but it really feels like Sinclair/ROH could have mined better archive footage than opting to re-run the catastrophic decision to make Taven World Champion at G1 Supercard AGAIN (although it is still a good match). The original, influential, legendary Dragon Gate trios match from 2006 Supercard is still a joyous spectacle to behold in abbreviated, TV edit form...and I did enjoy the montage of Supercard highlights in the middle of the show. Zero points for imagination or innovation for this episode though. It reeked of an easy, quick to produce episode with too much Sinclair bias though - and the decision to 'main event' it with a re-run of the match which marked a major turning point towards the demise of Sinclair-owned Ring Of Honor sums up the mismanagement of the company as a whole.
