ROH on Sinclair - Episode 464 - 7th August 2020

Shane Taylor is back on television once again. After starring in the 'main event' of Joe Hendry's episode last week with his memorable TV Title defence in London, he now has a full episode dedicated to his ROH tenure.

'Reverend' Ron Hunt, VP of Shane Taylor Promotions, is the host of the episode. He delivers an opening monologue talking about the dominance of STP, and calls Taylor's success in the last year 'unprecedented'. They do show clips of his ROH debut and pre-2019 career, but will focus on his months of TV Title domination for the broadcast.

Ron says that they 'scoured the world' to look for hungry young competitors to face Shane next. I'm going to say they did a HORRIBLE job if all they could find after 'scouring' the globe is a guy who was already on the roster...

Hunt's weird, retrospective amendments to Taylor's 2019 storylines continue. Apparently he defended the title in a four-way at Death Before Dishonor last year because they decided that four was their 'lucky number' once he'd defeated four challengers...even though that DBD17 was signed as a triple threat (featuring men he'd already beaten) and was only changed to a four-way at the last second because Dragon Lee worked the show at short notice.

Taylor himself appears only briefly at the end of the episode, with another message conveying his uncompromising, indomitable spirit...

Tape Rating - N/A - I like the idea behind this episode as it was a nice way to give Ron Hunt some screen-time as an ancillary member of Shane Taylor Promotions. Unfortunately the execution was pretty terrible. The way he tried to inject some back story into some of the matches was simply dreadful and clearly incorrect to anyone who was watching the product at the time, which immediately discredited him. It's also a shame they chose to focus solely on Taylor's TV Title run as he had some kick-ass matches before 2019 which people would do well to go back and check out.
