ROH on Sinclair - Episode 460 - 10th July 2020

This week we'll take a look back at the ROH career of Vincent/Vinny Marseglia. The pandemic struck at a particularly awkward time for him as he was in the middle of the highest profile angle of his career after defeating (and injuring) Matt Taven at Final Battle 2019. For now he looks back at some of his ROH highlights, and bides his time until he and Taven can renew hostilities in the ring.

Marseglia delivers a confusing, creepy opening monologue. They overlay a load of still photos and archive footage from some of his pre-Kingdom ROH appearances, before he then moves on to describe 2016 and his arrival onto the full-time ROH roster as a member of Matt Taven's 'new' Kingdom. He compares it to 'being a puppet on a string without even noticing'...

Next they re-run the pre-match hype video for the Taven/Vincent match from Final Battle 2019. It's a nice piece of footage which takes in the history of The Kingdom, Vinny being revealed as Taven's mystery stalker at The Experience 2019 and attacking Matt with an axe. It leads into highlights of that Final Battle match being shown, including the footage of Bateman being revealed as a member of The Righteous and helping Vincent break Taven's ankle.

We go to cinematic footage (presumably taped before the pandemic) which shows Vincent finding Chuckles The Clown in a bar and reveals how he was recruited to join The Righteous.

Jump to another cinematic scene, which sees Vita VonStarr verbally and physically assaulted by a male companion. As he did with Chuckles, he offers her the chance to 'change her life' and recruits her to his group as well.

Later we go to a dirty, run-down outbuilding where Vincent carves a 'V' into Vita's hand and she offers her commitment to their group in her blood.

SIDENOTE - Are they original, absolutely not. But I dug those Lucha Underground-esque cinematic scenes. I wish ROH had time to do more with the group before the pandemic. As I've said multiple times; Marseglia certainly isn't my favourite wrestler and his current gimmick is clearly very derivative - but it remains the role he was born to play, and makes him considerably more entertaining.

The episode ends with Vincent delivering an ominous warning that thus far we've only seen the 'Righteous beginnings' of his ill-intent.

Tape Rating - N/A - In some ways this was the best pandemic profile episode yet. The match content was barely relevant, but the amount of footage they put onto TV detailing Vincent's back story, and those awesome cinematic scenes showing him recruiting other members of The Righteous (which I assume were recycled from Week By Week, but I'd not seen them before) made this one of the more relevant episodes. Practically 'essential viewing' in an era where we've seen very little in the way of genuine character development over the last few months of television.
