ROH on Sinclair - Episode 459 - 3rd July 2020

PJ Black's ROH career to date is placed in the spotlight this week. He is world-renowned, and perhaps ROH's most 'recognisable' face on the current roster after his lengthy stint in WWE as Justin Gabriel. He has never truly found his niche in ROH, so has been something of a utility player - starting as a cocky heel, changing his ways and becoming an ally of Lifeblood, and coming up to the pandemic having taken 'The Mecca' Brian Johnson under his wing. It will be interesting to see what he considers his highlights, and if we get any kind of peak behind the curtain into the legitimate mindset of the veteran performer.

PJ Black opens the show a little differently by talking about his love of multiple extreme sports, with an in-depth discussion on his passion for skydiving. Naturally that leads to the serious injuries he has sustained whilst base jumping. He then moves on to talking about his time in quarantine, which he has spent largely reading books (he doesn't even own a TV apparently).

PJ talks about how much he has enjoyed competing against Bandido; even though he has been wrestling as long as Bandido has been alive. He says it is 'frustrating' that he has never beaten Bandido and wants another match with him sometime soon.

A TV edit of PJ Black vs Flip Gordon vs Triton from Global Wars Espectacular: Night 3 is shown

The episode ends with Black talking about his desire to pass on the wisdom gained from 20+ years in wrestling to the next generation. To that end he has taken 'The Mecca' Brian Johnson under his wing, even though Johnson can be a very angry man...

Tape Rating - N/A - In terms of match content this is probably the weakest profile episode thus far. That isn't completely surprising because Black simply doesn't have the body of great matches that some others on the roster do, and his best match (the Masters Of The Craft four-way) was already used on the Bandido episode. PJ is a completely unique individual though, so this was another episode where his link segments and the glimpses he offers into his life outside of the ring were more watchable than the recycled match footage.
