ROH on Sinclair – Episode 066 – 22nd December 2012

With Final Battle in the books, ROH enters an off-season for the remainder of 2012. Much like last year, the Christmas and New Year editions of ROH on SBG are going to be best of/highlight shows. I always enjoy these as it’s interesting to get Ring Of Honor’s perspective on what they believe to be their highlights of the year. Kevin Kelly is alone in the ROH studios to present the final episode of ROH TV before Christmas.

We don’t waste anytime, and go straight to Richards/Edwards IV from Sinclair TV in June. Apparently it’s one of the highest-viewed matches in the history of the show.

Up next we get highlights from the Brew City Beatdown main event. It’s cool to see the live event experience spotlighted on the TV show (since ‘Road Rage’ doesn’t do that anywhere near enough), and of course, Mark’s balcony dive is amongst the most memorable ROH moments in all of 2012. However, the fact that most people’s cellphones can shoot better quality footage than the stuff the ROH cameras managed to capture on that evening in Milwaukee certainly hurts it.

NEXT WEEK – ROH runs through some of it’s best matches of 2012, and crowns their MOTY. I’ll do the same in my annual Top 10 countdown.

Back from commercials with clips from one of my favourite Sinclair TV matches of the year – the rubber match in the trilogy between Mike Bennett and Lance Storm. I know he had a lot of critics, but I will genuinely miss Bennett if he’s definitely done with Ring Of Honor. I immediately took a shine to him at the end of the HDNet-era, and his growth as an in-ring performer this year has been something truly remarkable. If he does get the WWE deal he is currently chasing he stands a real chance of achieving something in the big leagues.

The finale this week is the memorable and exciting TV Title showdown between Roderick Strong and Adam Cole. That was another really underrated and hugely enjoyable Sinclair TV match for ROH

Tape Rating - N/A - Pretty slick production on this episode. They spotlighted great matches, house shows and generally did a good job of making ROH look like a can’t-miss wrestling spectacle. Considering how indifferent ROH’s product has been for large portions of 2012, that’s quite an achievement. It was noticeable how little of this content came from the first half of the year. These episodes are always an entertaining way to end the year and make for fun and totally inoffensive viewing for the die hards and the casuals alike.
